Off the Menu: Guero's Taco Bar

Guero's is awesome. Not only are they located on South Congress, but they also boast fantastic margaritas, live music on their outdoor stage and a very "Austin" atmosphere. I love that they were one of the first to have a full, printed gluten-free menu in this city, and they know what they are talking about. And, as always, when I can eat queso somewhere it is a win-win.

Please note: no rice here!! They sub potatoes.

Breakfast: don't forget to ask for corn tortillas!

SXSW Gluten-Free

The time has come for techies, musicians, artists, actors and all of their fans to rain down upon Austin for the 2012 SXSW Festival. I have been in Austin for almost 10 years now and am shocked at how huge it has actually gotten over time. With almost three weeks of events it is nothing short of a phenomenon.

I am well-aware that eating gluten-free and traveling aren't the most friendly mix. So...I wanted to put my mapping tool front and center for all of our visitors so no one will miss out on the amazing food that Austin has to offer for those of us who are normally don't get to be excited about food.

My goal in collecting the menus from these locations was not just to tell you that they are "gluten-free friendly" but show you what you can actually order. Each pinpoint has got the contact information as well as a link to my blog post that highlights that restaurant and it's menu items.

In addition, here is a link to the food carts and trailers that have gluten-free menu items. I don't have specific information for each one but they are always accommodating!

Off the Menu: Chuy's

I figured since Uncle Billy's, Chuy's and Hula Hut are all under the same company that they would have a gluten-free menu, but it cannot be found online! Here is what they sent me:

Appetizers:
Guacamole, no chips, sub corn tortillas
Cheese Quesadillas, sub corn tortillas

Salads:
Mexi-Cobb Salad, no meat
Large Dinner Salad
** Dressing: Cilantro Vinaigrette

Sides:
Corn, Blue Corn Tortillas

Tacos:
Guacamole Soft Tacos, sub corn tortillas, no rice

Enchiladas:
Veggie Enchiladas, no sauce, no rice

Combinations:
#3 Taco & Enchilada, sub guacamole soft taco on corn tortilla, with Veggie Enchilada, no sauce, no rice

As you can see...pretty boring - can't have any meat, sauce or rice...for Mexican food the way to go is definitely Trudy's, Iron Cactus or Cantina Laredo!!
